Ways to Give
A gift that outlives all of us
Once your family and friends are looked after, a gift in your will is a way of making sure that a child somewhere in Kent, Sussex, Surrey or Essex still gets their wish long after all of us are gone. However large or small, it costs you nothing today.
Where to Start
Your family comes first
We would never ask anyone to choose between their family and a charity, and we would not want you to. A gift in a will is what is left after the people you love are provided for.
We would also always encourage you to speak to a solicitor when you write or update your will. It is their job to make sure your wishes are followed exactly, and to talk you through anything that affects your estate, including how gifts to charities are treated.
The Options
The three kinds of gift
Your solicitor will recognise all three of these. Which one suits you is entirely a matter for you and them.
- A share of your estate, sometimes called a residuary gift. This is a percentage of whatever is left once everything else has been settled. Many people choose this because it keeps its value over time without needing the will rewritten.
- A fixed sum, sometimes called a pecuniary gift. A specific amount of money, for example £1,000.
- A particular item, sometimes called a specific gift. Property, shares, or something else you own.
For Your Solicitor
The details they will ask for
To leave a gift to the charity, your solicitor needs our full registered name, our registered charity number and our registered address. Getting the charity number right matters more than anything else on this page, because it is what makes it unmistakably clear which organisation you meant.
If you or your solicitor would like to check these details against the public record, our entry on the Charity Commission register is below.
- Registered name: Taylor-Made Dreams
- Registered charity number: 1158174
- Registered address: 8 Sherlock Shaw, Crowborough, TN6 2FN
- TMD Office, for correspondence: The Oast, Great Danegate Farm, Tunbridge Wells, TN3 9HU
Talking to Us
You do not have to tell us
There is no obligation to let us know, and a gift left quietly is worth exactly as much as one we knew about.
That said, if you would like to talk it through, or you would rather your gift went towards something in particular, we would be very glad to hear from you. A conversation also means we can thank you properly while you are still here to hear it.
